Website Management: Design, Hosting on Our Managed Servers, and a Person Who Answers

Website management is the service most of our clients have bought, and kept, for seven to ten years. It is one monthly plan that covers everything a small business needs to have a site and not think about it: the design, the hosting, the updates, the backups, the security, the uptime, the small changes, and a person who answers when something is wrong.

What the plan covers

The site itself. If you need a new site or a redesign, we build it on WordPress with a theme we write for you: no page builder, no theme bought from a marketplace, no plugin stack doing the layout. A lean theme is faster on a phone, easier to keep secure, and does not break when a builder changes its mind about pricing or versions. Where the current site is sound, we keep it and manage it as it is.

Hosting on our managed servers. Your site runs on servers we manage ourselves, with the web server, PHP and the database kept current, a certificate that renews on its own, and daily backups kept off the server. You do not need a hosting account anywhere else, and you never deal with a hosting company’s support queue.

Updates. WordPress, the theme and every plugin are updated on a schedule, on a copy of the site first when an update is large, so a broken update never reaches your visitors.

Security. A firewall, login protection, file monitoring, and the removal of anything that is not needed. If a site is ever compromised, we restore it from a clean backup and close the way in. That has happened to sites we took over; it has not happened to a site we built.

Uptime. The site is checked every few minutes from outside. If it stops answering, we know before you do.

Changes. New photos, a new service, a price change, a seasonal notice, a new page: send an email, and it is done. The hours included depend on the tier.

A report. Once a month, a short email: what was updated, what was changed, what the uptime was, what the visitor numbers did. Two minutes to read.

The three tiers

Tier For What it adds
Essential A site that mostly stays as it is Hosting, updates, backups, security, uptime, the monthly report, and small fixes
Standard A site that changes every month Essential, plus an hour of changes every month and a same-day reply to urgent requests
Plus A site that is part of how the business sells Standard, plus a quarterly content refresh, performance and accessibility checks, and the search reporting from Optimization

We tell you which tier fits after the free consultation. Most contractors and practices are on Standard. A site that is a brochure and nothing more is Essential, and we say so rather than sell up.

For contractors: the licence number check

Every contractor plan includes a check that the site shows what California’s licensing board requires on any site that solicits work: the licence number, the right classification wording, and no claims the board does not allow. The board publishes its advertising rules; we read them for you and keep the site inside them.

What the plan does not cover

Content writing beyond the included hours, advertising spend, email hosting for your staff (we can arrange it, at cost), and work on sites we do not host. Those are quoted separately, in writing, before anything starts.

What it costs

A sliding scale, in writing, after the free consultation. What it costs depends on what the site has to do, not on how big we think you are. How we work explains what moves the price.
